MAKEUP TIPS FOR IRRESISTIBLE LIPS |
| In order to achieve a perfect look, it is necessary to know the ins and outs of applying lipstick. This is particularly important if Mother Nature didn’t bless you with a “perfect” mouth. With the right makeup technique, you can work wonders, regardless of your lip shape—either to transform small lips into luscious, voluminous ones, or to magically even out a crooked mouth. Makeup artist Fiona Langstädtler let us take a peek over her shoulder and revealed to us her best tricks for shaping a beautiful mouth.

The Right Base |
| Has this ever happened to you? Only a few minutes ago at home, your lipstick looked perfect. But now at the bar, after a cocktail and some conversation, you stare in the ladies’ room mirror at the traces of your once glamorous lipstick. This could be due to a poor base coat, says Fiona Landstädtler, who shows us the secret to achieving long lasting color…
Regardless of their shape, a base coat should be applied to lips before the lipstick. This is best applied with a small sponge. To distribute lip color evenly, it is best to also apply a moisturizer. This helps keep lips from drying out which, depending on the moisture content of the lipstick, can often lead to an unpleasant dry feeling on the lips. Those who tend to have dry lips should also practice a light peeling once a week using a toothbrush. This removes dead skin cells and stimulates circulation in the lips.

Problem: Droopy Lips |
| Droopy lips tend to make people look unfriendly and older than they really are. However, droopy lips can be lifted and made to appear “friendlier” using an easy trick. First, apply a base to the lips, as described above.
Next, use a concealer pencil to outline the lip, beginning from just above its natural line and tracing the upper contour. This allows you to “correct” any unevenness, make the lips look more voluminous, and, in this case, “lift” droopy corners of the mouth by masking them with the concealer.
Use a lip liner to add contour, again just above the natural outline of the upper lip. Begin at the corner of the mouth, lightly swinging the pencil upward so that the mouth appears lifted.
Finally, fill in with lipstick (ideally using a lip brush). Note: Make sure that the lip pencil and lipstick are the same shade! With this small trick, you can make lips look even fuller: Place a dab of light gloss (particularly in silver or white) onto the middle of lips to add depth.
Problem: Uneven Lips |
| The technique for “correcting” uneven lips is similar to the one described above. After applying the base coat, used a concealer pencil to create an outline along the natural line of the lip. This time, however, the concealer is applied to balance out the areas of the lips that are too thin (see picture).
Next, outline the lips with a lip pencil. In places where the concealer extends beyond the natural line of lips, even out irregularities by drawing the lip pencil line accordingly. To finish, fill in lips with lipstick (ideally using a lip brush).
Problem: Large Mouth |
| Full lips can be minimized with a simple trick. After applying a base, outline lips with concealer. Then, apply lip liner underneath the natural outline.
To finish, fill in lips with color—only inside this line.
