Tyler Johnston – The Creative Mind behind Schwarzkopf

Tyler Johnston is the Global Ambassador for Schwarzkopf Professional. His innovative ideas and expertise are what drive Schwarzkopf Professional’s new collections.

He works on a very tight schedule. Countless designers appreciate his creativity and professionalism, and depend on him to provide his expertise at international fashion shows in Paris, Milan, New York, and London. Yet he still is able to find time for his personal clients. Among them are stars like David Beckham, Liam Gallagher, Natalie Imbruglia, Jamiroquai, The Who, Oasis, The Spice Girls, Courtney Love, and artists such as Tracy Emin.

Tyler Johnston is one of the top new British talents and enjoys the demands of session work—whether for the runway or for photo shoots. Many publishers of fashion magazines him and his professional sense about the latest trends. He has worked with the Italian, British, Japanese, and German Vogue, Visionnaire, W Magazine, The Face, ID, 10 Magazine, Dazed & Confused, Pop, and L’uomo Vogue.

What drives Johnston is his passion for hair. His expertise lies in styling—often with eccentric looks—but always appropriate for the context. It may be a campaign for Prada, young kids sporting Levis in the summer heat of the Datona Race track or a selection of the world's top models running the catwalk in New York, Paris or Milan.

Wherever the challenge of editorial or session work takes him, Tyler Johnston has the ability to deliver truly original ideas that inspire those around him. This is likely one of the key reasons why the world's top photographers such as Vincent Peters and Norman Watson are keen to work with him.

Tyler explains: “I look at people all the time, their faces, where they are coming from, knowing there is something there that will tell me about that person. It might be the way they stand or hold themselves, even something that is wrong or odd, but to me that is an inspiring quality about someone’s look. People inspire me–not fashion.”

This inspiration is also evident in the Essential Looks, staged by Tyler Johnston together with a team from Schwarzkopf Professional. Essential Looks introduces five or six looks of the season, created twice yearly by Steve Hogan and realized by Tyler Johnston and Jonathan Duffy as lead hairstylists. Tracy Hayes, the new Color Ambassador in the team, is responsible for hair color.
