Which ingredient provides effective protection against caries, and is this included in all Theramed products?

Fluoride penetrates the dental enamel and increases its resistance to corrosive acids (i.e., strengthens the enamel). Fluoride also inhibits the metabolism of bacteria existing in the mouth so that fewer acids are produced at the outset. All Theramed products contain specialized all around protection, not only against caries but also against periodontosis, plaque, and consequentially against the build-up of tartar.

A lot is heard about the “correct” brushing technique. What is this exactly?

Dentists recommend the “modified bass technique”: Place the brush at a slant to the gum line, at about a 45° angle to the edge of the gum. Then brush each tooth, one by one, using slightly vibratory, circular motions. In so doing, plaque is loosened and then brushed away towards the crown (i.e., away from the gums). Small children brush most effectively with the “Fones technique.” First place bristles at the back of closed teeth. Then brush towards the front using lightly circular motions, sweeping over both the upper and lower teeth.

At what age should children start brushing…and with what?

Caries prevention is the most important part of children’s dental care. The fluoride content of a children’s toothpaste is tailored exactly to the age of the child. Recent tests show: For children up to 6 years, baby teeth are best protected with a fluoride content of 500 ppm. Older teeth require more fluoride. For school-aged children, a junior toothpaste with 1000 ppm is recommended to adequately protect their new permanent teeth.

What is the difference between a toothpaste and a so-called 2 in 1 gel?

Both contain effective ingredients. However, 2 in 1 products offer a dual benefit: When mixed with water, they can also be used as a mouthwash, because their fluid consistency facilitates the quick distribution of ingredients in the mouth.
